As
a sub-assembly in an automotive transmission, the housing portion of
this product was successfully converted from cast aluminum to injection
molded plastic. Meeting or exceeding the original strength and reliability
of the design were some of the challenges attained during this project.
The new design enabled several secondary operations in machining and
assembly to be eliminated. This resulted in a significant cost reduction.
Conversion of the internal metal parts to plastic is currently under
consideration.
